A.1- TASK DISSEMINATION

The Formulation of an Agreed Plan of Action that will include the detailed methodology and time schedule to be followed and the detailed actions for each partner and action coordinator. The Formation of the Steering Committee.

A.2 – STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION

One consultation activity for the quarry sector, the cement sector, the clay brick/tile sector, the environmental organizations, NGOs, scientific organizations with a participation of more than 20 participants

B.1 – GENERAL DATA COLLECTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF PRESENT CONDITIONS

  • Collection of quantifiable data regarding quarry slurry components and quantities in Cyprus
  • Identification of the current practices of quarry slurry treatment
  • Collection of all the relevant legislation and policies applied as well as EU and international quarry slurry treatment practice.
  • Assessment of technical and operational currently used in cement and clay brick/tile industry
  • Collection and archiving of the required statistical data and information regarding quarry, clay brick/tile and cement industries (i.e. CO2 emissions);
  • Achievement of good quality data, in the appropriate format.
  • One report on the current quarry, cement and clay brick/tile industry operation

B.2 – PREPARATION OF IMPLEMENTATION SCENARIOS

  • Preparation and presentation of a report presenting the final scenarios to be implemented. It expected that 15 scenarios will be prepared for the clay brick/tile industry and another 10 for the cement industry.
  • CO2 emission reduction levels for each scenario presented

B.3 – DEMONSTRATION ACTION

  • Records with core data regarding the appropriate procedure for managing the quarry slurry from production until utilization in industry;
  • Records with environmental and financial parameters involved in managing process;
  • Production of cement and clay brick/tile products with the use of quarry slurry for each implementation scenario regarding the percentage of the quarry slurry participation;
  • Records with core data regarding the appropriate procedure for quarry slurry installment in the production chain of each industry;
  • Records with indicative figures of factors connected with the CO2 emissions and other environmental parameters from each industry involved;
  • Records with costs for each scenario implemented.
  • Reports that will include:
  • The appropriate procedure for managing the quarry slurry from production until utilization in industry. This will include recommendations related to the collection, storage, transfer and methods of using the slurry;
  • Identification of technical/environmental/financial benefits and drawbacks of the proposed procedure;
  • Estimation of the financial burden for the transferring and utilizing quarry slurry to cement and brick/tile industries including real expenses for tracking and the implementation of modifications in the production activities and control in each industry;
  • The environmental cost/benefits of the implementation of the demonstration action including indicative figures of factors connected with the CO2 emissions and other environmental parameters from each industry involved;
  • Technical specification guidelines for the production of cement and clay brick/tile products with the use of quarry slurry for each implementation scenario regarding the percentage of the quarry slurry usage in the raw materials and the appropriate procedure for quarry slurry installment in the production procedure of each industry;
  • Quality control measures to be implemented in each industry to ensure the quality of products;

C.1 – FINANCIAL, SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

  • Identification of the best implemented scenario for each industry;
  • Quantification of CO2 emissions for the best scenario for each industry;
  • Report on the environmental, social and financial impacts of the project

D.1 – DISSEMINATION OF RESULTS

National/EU and International authorities, industry and other stakeholders will become better informed the possibilities of resource efficiency and specifically in the use of quarry slurry as a resource in the cement and clay brick/tile industries.

The outcomes of this Action include: Development of project logo, development of website, Kick-off meeting, Stakeholder Consultation, conference/ informational day proceedings, Kick-off meeting minutes, conference/ informational minutes, stakeholder consultation minutes, bi-lingual leaflets, notice boards, notification letter to relevant authorities and stakeholders, project announcement at the beneficiaries websites and relevant publications.

D.2 – NETWORKING

National/EU and International authorities, industry and other stakeholders will become aware of the possibilities of resource efficiency and specifically in the use of quarry slurry as a resource in the cement and clay brick/tile industries.

The outcomes of this Action include: e-mails send to relevant Life+ projects and authorities interested in quarry, cement and brick/tile sectors. The e-mails will include information about the project and copies of the project deliverables.
